NASHVILLE, Tenn. – More than 125 years ago, messengers at the Southern Baptist Convention in Birmingham, Ala., created the publishing arm of the Southern Baptist Convention, which today has become one of the world’s largest providers of Christian resources known as Lifeway Christian Resources.
At this year’s SBC annual meeting in Birmingham, Lifeway Acting CEO Brad Waggoner will address issues related to the closing of its brick-and-mortar stores and how Lifeway will continue its original mission from 1891—to assist the Church in her mission of making disciples.
“Lifeway has seen many changes in our 128-year history. At every turn we’ve adapted to meet the needs of local churches while remaining anchored to our confession of faith,” says Waggoner. “This year, we had to make one of the toughest decisions in Lifeway’s history. But Lifeway’s commitment to our mission—the mission Southern Baptists have given us—has never been stronger.”
LifeWay’s core business—publishing and events—serves both individuals and churches by providing biblical content and life-changing experiences. Lifeway will continue to serve customers through multiple channels, including Lifeway.com, Lifeway’s toll-free and online Customer Service Center and a network of church partners.
“The changes we are making in 2019 give us opportunities to expand our reach, better serve our customers and get the message of the gospel to the world,” Waggoner says. “Our mission has not changed; we will continue to provide biblical solutions for life.”
In preparation for the Annual Meeting, Lifeway is providing messengers with answers to frequently asked questions about the store closures. These FAQs are available on the “SBC Annual Meetings” mobile app and on the Lifeway Newsroom.
LifeWay’s report and presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, at 4:08 p.m. CDT.
