Lifeway’s ‘Give a Bible’ initiative provides Bibles for church plants

October 12, 2021

By Y Bonesteele

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –  Lifeway Christian Resources launched a “Give a Bible” Ministry Partnership Program for the month of October. Customers on Lifeway.com will have an opportunity to “Give a Bible for $5” with a click of a button or in their shopping cart as a simple add-on option. Each five dollars given will provide a partnering organization with one Bible to get in the hands of someone who needs it.

From October 4-31, Lifeway is partnering with the North American Mission Board (NAMB) to provide Bibles to new churches. NAMB equips churches to be on mission in their own communities and across the continent. Through evangelism, church planting, compassion ministry and chaplaincy, they help congregations assist those in need, spiritually and otherwise.

Lifeway President and CEO Ben Mandrell said he’s excited Lifeway is launching the “Give a Bible” initiative.

“When our family set out to start a church in Denver, we learned two things quickly: how to hustle and how to do more with less. Whenever churches or generous Christians would donate toward our mission, we not only felt the joy of the gift, but even more, we felt the comfort of knowing we are not alone,” Mandrell said. “I’m thrilled Lifeway is partnering with our customers to send Bibles to church planters. We want to be the wind in the backs of our planters, and we want to put copies of the Word in their hands. There is no resource more powerful than the Scriptures.”

NAMB President Kevin Ezell agreed. “Many people who attend our church plants are brand new believers, and some are still exploring the faith—they may not even own a Bible,” said Ezell. “It is so important for new believers to spend time in God’s Word and live it out. The Bibles Lifeway customers give will play an important part in the spiritual lives of the people being reached and discipled through our new churches.”

Andy McLean, director for Lifeway’s Bibles and Reference Team, said by partnering with ministry organizations like NAMB, “Lifeway is given the opportunity to extend our own ministry stewardship of God’s Word in a way that benefits the mission of the ministries we partner with and the people they serve. It also allows us to be a conduit of ministry support on behalf of Christians who want to be a part of a ministry effort of getting Bibles into the hands and hearts of people.”

During the month of October, Lifeway.com customers will see the add-on option and be able to give a Bible as they check out. They can also directly purchase one or more Bibles at lifeway.com/giveabible. In early 2022, this initiative will roll out again with partnerships to other mission-minded ministries.

“Lifeway is first and foremost a ministry that serves local churches and individual Christians with services, tools and resources for ministry and discipleship,” McLean said. “One of our deep desires is to help people get into God’s Word so they might, as the psalmist says, faithfully hide the life-changing Word within their hearts. But before that takes place, we need to get the written Word of God into their hands and homes.”
